Head Coach

Joined the DePauw staff as head men's basketball coach in April 2022.

PRIOR TO DEPAUW

Served as head men's basketball coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology since 2014

In eight seasons as the head coach at Rose-Hulman, Loyd led the Fightin' Engineers to a 120-78 overall record and an 82-43 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

  • Named the HCAC Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2021
  • Rose-Hulman teams appeared in the HCAC Tournament championship game three times
  • Directed Rose-Hulman to the HCAC regular season conference title in 2018 while tying for second in 2019 and 2022
  • Named to the Silver Waves Media list of 50 Impactful Head Coaches in NCAA Division III men's basketball in 2020 and 2022
  • Prior to his selection as the head coach, he was the assistant men's basketball coach and head men's golf coach at Rose-Hulman for five seasons.
  • Started his coaching career as an assistant at Earlham College for two seasons before moving on to a two-year stint at Lewis University and four years at his alma mater. His first head coaching position came in June 2006 when he was chosen to direct the program at Illinois Institute of Technology where he stayed until 2009.

COLLEGE CAREER

  • Graduated from University of Chicago in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
  • As a player with the Maroons, he helped lead the team to a 76-29 four-year record, while starting three years and serving as a captain
  • During his junior and senior seasons, Chicago posted a 47-8 record and earned spots in the NCAA Division III round of 16 both years
  • He was a three-time all-University Athletic Association selection in addition to earning two all-region honors and all-America accolades as a senior
  • In 2018, Loyd was selected to the UAA 30th anniversary team.

PERSONAL

  • Loyd and his wife Kristen are parents to three children, Mia, Mason and Maren

Assistant Coach

Joined the DePauw staff as assistant men's basketball coach in July 2022.

PRIOR TO DEPAUW

Served as head assistant men's basketball coach at Central College (Iowa) from August 2017-May 2022.

Head junior varsity boys basketball coach at Lisle High School in Lisle, Ill., where he led the team to a 17-8 record during the 2016-17 season.

  • Was the head freshman boys basketball game at Lisle High School in 2015-16 and the team finished 17-6.
  • Worked as a basketball camp instructor/AAU coach for the Chicago Bulls Youth Academy from February 2016-July 2017.
  • Played in 10 different countries on five different continents over a four-year stretch from August 2011 through May 2015.
  • Drafted 24th overall by the London Lightning of the the NBL (National Basketball League) of Canada.
  • Honored as an all-star in Kosovo.
  • Selected as a member of the Nigerian national team.
  • Helped an Italian team reach the league semifinals.
  • Earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from Greenville in 2011 and completed his master's degree in coaching from Greenville in 2018.
  • Earned second team all-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2011.
  • Led the SLIAC in offensive rebounding (2.5 rpg) in 2010-11 and was named to the conference's all-defensive team.

Coach MattMatt Krause
Assistant Coach

Joined the DePauw staff as an assistant men's basketball coach in August 2022.

PRIOR TO DEPAUW

Earned all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors in men's basketball three times for Franklin College.

Was a three-time HCAC Player of the Week.

  • Played on teams that won the 2021 and 2022 HCAC tournaments and the 2020 squad that won the HCAC regular season title.
  • Named the 2021 HCAC Tournament MVP and to the all-tournament team in 2022.
  • Named to the 2019 Lee Pfund Classic All-Tournament Team.
  • Scored over 1,100 points and grabbed over 750 rebounds in collegiate career.
  • Earned a bachelor's degree from Franklin in May 2022 with a major in sports management.
  • Interned in the Franklin athletic department in January 2021 and served on the event staff in the fall of 2021.
  • Worked as a camp counselor at the Steve Alford Basketball Camp.
